Blackboard is a Web-based software application that integrates online course materials with asynchronous and synchronous online communication tools. To access a Blackboard course site, you will need the following:

  • Access to a computer equipped with an Internet connection and a Web browser (Internet Explorer, version 5.0 and higher)

    • Please note that Blackboard does not run well on AOL's web browser or Netscape, so we recommend only using Internet Explorer

  • A Suffolk e-mail account and knowledge of how to send and receive e-mail

  • Suffolk University Student ID

  • Basic computer and web browsing skills (for a beginner’s tutorial, see http://middletownpubliclibrary.org/tutor.htm)

  • A SSOM Blackboard account

How do I establish a Blackboard account?
All students who register for classes are automatically given an account on the SSOM network. Your account consists of:

  • Username: firstinitialfulllastname (eg: John Doe: username will be jdoe )
  • Password: Suffolk University Student ID number

How do I log into Blackboard ?
You can access the Blackboard login at www.mycourses.sawyer.suffolk.edu. Your Blackboard username is your first initial last name (eg: John Doe username will be jdoe). Your Blackboard password is your Suffolk Student ID.

Please note: Currently our systems are not yet automated, which means only instructors who have requested for a Blackboard course site will have notified us of their list of students. Only such students will be able to access the Blackboard site.
