The Blackboard Online support site is for students using Blackboard course websites, answering their technical questions, identifying and locating technology requirements for online learning, and obtaining software for their computers; faculty in teaching via the Web, requesting course websites, signing up for workshops and tutorials, and developing their course websites; and administrative staff in locating the resources to support their departments in developing and delivering web-supported and online courses.

Introduction to Blackboard

Blackboard is an online software tool for faculty and students to share information and interact with each other on the internet. For faculty, Blackboard makes it easy for you to post your course materials online for your students to access. It allows instructors to create, deliver, and manage web-based materials for courses. Available features are:

  • course announcements

  • personalized course calendars

  • asynchronous threaded discussion

  • synchronous group chat, with or without tools such as white board, group web browser, course browser, and more

  • online quizzes and surveys, with automated grading and statistics capacity

  • course assignment and documents areas

  • course-related external links

  • online file sharing

  • timed release of quizzes and other course materials

  • student rosters, e-mail, and online gradebook

  • group project areas

Creating courses in Blackboard

Blackboard course pages are easy to create. Instructors use built-in templates to create announcements, course folders, threaded discussions, quizzes, and external links. Course materials can be created within Blackboard, or can be developed offline using any software you choose, and then uploaded into the Blackboard course site.
